Ali Wong’s birth took place on April 19, 1982, in San Francisco, California, USA. She was born Alexandra Wong to a Chinese-American father, Adolphus Wong, and a Vietnamese mother, Tam "Tammy" Wong.
She is not the only child of her parents and has three older siblings. Her sister is named Mimi Wong, and her brother is named Andrew Wong. The name of her third sibling is not known.

Wong and her husband have two children together. Their first daughter, Mari Hakuta, was born in November 2015, and their second daughter, Nikki Hakuta, was born in December 2017. This marriage ended in divorce in 2024.

Before Fame
Wong discovered her love for performing at UCLA. There, she was a member of the LCC Theatre Company. After completing college, she pursued a career in comedy and performed in New York City, even up to nine stand-up acts per night.
Years after starting her professional career in 2005, she was included in Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2011. Soon, she had appearances on The Tonight Show and John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show.
