Soon after graduation, Anne Dickerson worked for A-Pix Entertainment and, in 1993, was promoted to head of business affairs. She also worked as a television producer for the National Geographic Specials, as well as a writer and developer for children’s television. As this did not give her job satisfaction, she ventured to change the course of her career.

She explained in a series of tweets dated 21 September 2018, 

"At my very first job out of college, while on a business trip, a much more senior banker in my firm shoved me against an elevator wall and tried to kiss me. I was 22. I felt helpless and furious and shocked. He was in his mid 30’s and married with three kids. I had thought work was a place you were safe. Yes, there was drinking. The next day he said something along the lines of “you’re not going to say anything about this, are you? He was one of a small group (of only men) who determined the amount of my bonus. I remained so angry, I eventually went to see a lawyer. He told me it would be his word against mine and since there was no one else around, would be impossible to prove. I didn’t pursue it. I left the firm. He was promoted. I didn’t tell my parents, I didn’t want them to worry about me traveling for work. Its been 26 years and I don’t recall the date, and I certainly do not know the time, or the place. But I do know exactly who he was.”
