Dan Smyers is a singer and songwriter by profession, and an American by nationality. He is one half of the duo Dan + Shay, with Shay Mooney being the other half.

Dan Smyers’ birth took place on August 16, 1987, in Wexford, Pennsylvania, the United States, to his father, Dan Smyers Sr., and his mother, Patti Smyers. For education, Dan Smyers attended North Allegheny Senior High School, from which he also graduated. While in high school, he spent his time touring and trying to cut into the music industry. He then enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University to study finance.

Dan Smyers began his relationship with Abby Law in early 2013 after meeting at an animal rescue center. After three and a half years of dating, the Smyers proposed to Law in November 2016 on the beach of Waikiki, Hawaii.

Six months later, they married on May 13, 2017, and the two could not look more perfect for each other. 

They do not have any children, nor have they announced news of pregnancy as of yet. But they are parents to three rescued canines named Chief, Joy, and Ghost. The couple seems to be very happy with their life, marriage, and career.

Law is also good friends with Shay Mooney’s wife, Hannah Billingsley.

Early Career

On December 7, 2012, Dan Smyers met Shay Mooney in Nashville, Tennessee. The very next day, the duo started writing songs and music, and within two months, they had collected many publishing offers. Finally, the duo made the decision to sign with Warner/Chappell Music, a division of Warner Music Group, as Dan + Shay.

With the help of Danny Orton, the musical duo wrote the song 19 You + Me, which was released on October 14, 2013. The single was a success, receiving several praises along the way. The band, already established with a single, released its debut album, Where It All Began, on April 1, 2014. Of course, they were helped by Orton, Rhett Atkins, and Ben Hayslip.

Albums

A single from the album, Nothin' Like You, which was released on February 23, 2015, reached number one on the Country Airplay chart in December 2015.

Dan + Shay then went on to become the opening act for country musicians like Hunter Hayes and Blake Shelton. Encouraged, the duo began their own tour on October 9, 2014, in Minneapolis, and it was titled the Where It All Began Tour. This was followed by another tour, Just the Right Kind of Crazy Tour, in 2015.

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney released another album titled Obsessed on June 3, 2016, selling over 95,700 copies in the US alone. Their latest album is Dan + Shay, released on June 22, 2018, and features collaborations with Kelly Clarkson. They had beforehand released the album’s single Tequila in January 2018, reaching the top 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

In August 2018, the duo released Dan + Shay (The Vocals), and a collaboration with Lindsey Stirling is to be noted. They released their fourth studio album, Good Things, in 2021.

The duo has been nominated for prestigious awards such as the Academy of Country Music Awards, Country Music Association Awards, CMT Music Awards, Grammy Awards, etc.

 Among all the nominations, they have won the 2015 ASCAP Country Music Awards for Most Performed Songs and the 2018 CMT Music Awards for Duo Video of the Year – Tequila.

Their most recent win is the 2019 Grammy Awards for the category Best Country Duo Group Performance, while being nominated for Best Country Song, also by the 2019 Grammy Awards.

Dan + Shay earned six nominations at the Academy of Country Music Awards and won the best duo prize,  song of the year, and single record of the year.
