Who is Daniel Portman?

Daniel Portman is an actor by profession and Scottish by nationality. Amongst all his work in the entertainment industry, he is best known for portraying Podrick Payne on HBO's Game of Thrones.

Daniel Portman’s birth took place on 13 February 1992 in Glasgow, Scotland. He was born to his father, Ron Donachie, an actor, and his mother, Fiona Biggar. He is not the only child of his parents and has a sibling as well, a sister named Naomi Porter. Portman was raised in Strathbungo, Glasgow.

Education, Ethnicity

For education, Daniel Portman studied at Shawlands Academy. There he was a head boy and also played rugby for the school. After graduation, he attended Reid Kerr College, where he earned a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in acting and performing. He is the nephew of Stewart Porter.

His ethnicity is Scottish.

Daniel Portman – Career

Early Career

Daniel Portman started his career in acting at the age of 16. His debut role was in the 2010 film Outcast as Paul, alongside James Nesbitt. In 2011, he landed the role of Darren in the TV series River City and in the 2012 film Sniper's Pal 2 as The Angels' Share.

Films, Series

Finally, in 2012, Daniel Portman landed his breakthrough role of Podrick Payne in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones, in which his father also appeared. His character also had screen time in season 8 of Game of Thrones, which is also the final season of the series. 

Since then, Portman has starred in the films Robert of Bruce (2019), Betrayal (2023), Man and Witch (2024), and Fear (2025). He has also portrayed characters in the episodes of the TV series Vigil (2021), The Control Room (2022).
