George Lopez was born on 23rd April 1961 in Mission Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA. He was born George Edward Lopez to his father, Frieda Lopez, and his mother, Anatasio Lopez, a migrant worker.
But he was not raised by his parents. His father left the family when he was 2 months old, and his mother left him when he was 10 years old.
His kind-hearted maternal grandmother, Benita Gutierrez, who worked at a factory, and step-grandfather, Refugio Gutierrez, a construction worker, were the ones who took him in and raised him.

For education, George Lopez attended San Fernando High School and graduated from the same in 1979. Other facts about his siblings, family, and childhood are not known.

After almost 20 years of marriage, he announced on September 27, 2010, that they were separating and filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" on November 23, 2010.
It was reported that he had cheated on his wife, who had saved his life in 2005, with prostitutes. Their divorce was finalized on July 1, 2011.
Although he has been pictured with numerous women in the past, he is currently single.

Before fame
Lopez started his career as a stand-up comedian, and after years of hard work, it finally paid off. In 2000, actress Sandra Bullock asked him to produce and star in a comedy. Back then, Hispanic-oriented sitcoms on American television were lacking, and the Hispanic American groups were critical of the situation.
His self-titled sitcom, George Lopez, quickly became a huge success. It aired on ABC in 2002, and he became one of the few Latinos in the TV series.

The sitcom aired on ABC from 2002 to 2007, and on March 8, 2007, it was announced that George Lopez would air on Nick at Nite.
Aside from the sitcom, George Lopez has worked as the host of Inside the NFL (2003-2004) and in the TV series Reno 911! (2008), The Naked Brothers Band (2007-2008), Mr. Troop Mom (2009), Lopez Tonight (2009-2011), Lopez (2016-2017), The Comedy Get Down (2017).

Lopez has a genetic disease that causes the kidneys to deteriorate over time. In April 2004, doctors advised him to replace his kidney. His wife, Ann Serrano, had donated her kidney to her husband.
