She was born to her father, Martin Murray, a University of Bristol professor, and her mother, Rosemary Silvester, a University of Bristol research technician. Before fame

Hannah Murray began taking acting classes in her teens and fell in love with it. At the age of 17, she auditioned for the teen drama series Skins and was cast as Cassie Ainsworth. She portrayed the role for a total of 19 episodes from 2007 to 2008, again reprising the role in 2013. 

In 2008, she was in the stage production of That Face. The same year, in 2008, she landed the role of a prostitute in the film In Bruges, but her scene was deleted. This was followed by minor roles in Womb (2010), Chatroom (2010), and the TV series Agatha Christie's Marple (2009), Above Suspicion: The Red Dahlia (2010).

Films, Series

Finally, in 2012, Hannah Murray landed the recurring role of Gilly in Game of Thrones, which she portrayed until 2019. 

Since then, she has starred in films such as Dark Shadows (2012), The Numbers Station (2013), God Help the Girl (2014), Bridgend (2015), Detroit (2017), and Charlie Says (2018), among others.

She has also worked in a theatre production of 2014’s Martine, voiced Lucy Alexander in the radio program Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully (2013-2014), and appeared in Belle and Sebastian’s music video.
