Joe Dempsie is an actor by profession and British by nationality. Among all his TV and film roles, he is best known as Gendry Baratheon in Game of Thrones and as Chris Miles in Skins.

Joe Dempsie’s birth took place on 22 June 1987 in Liverpool, England. His full name is Joseph Maxwell Dempsie and was named by his mother, Gret Dempsie, and his father, Jim Dempsie. He is not the only child of his parents and was raised alongside his sibling, a sister named Lauren Dempsie.

Before fame

Dempsie started his professional career in 2000. He lent his voice to Clearasil advertisements in the UK. He has landed minor roles in the TV series Peak Practice (2000), Doctors (2001), Sweet Medicine (2003), and To Kill a Burglar (2003).

In 2007, he landed the role of Chris Miles in Skins, which gained him much recognition. Joe Dempsie played the role until 2008. After guest appearances in Doctor Who and Merlin, he landed his breakthrough role of Gendry in Game of Thrones. 

He appeared in a total of 19 episodes in series 1-3, 7-8, and had dyed his hair black, and hit the gym to prepare for the role.
