Jon Stewart was born on November 28, 1962, in New York City, U.S.A. His birth name/full name is Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz. His mother, Marian Leibowitz, worked as a teacher and later as an educational consultant. His father, Donald Leibowitz, worked as a Physics professor at The College of New Jersey and Thomas Edison State College.

He is not the only child of his parents and has three siblings and a half-sibling. Jon Stewart is the second of his parents’ four sons. His older brother’s name is Lawrence, and his younger brothers are Dan and Matthew Leibowitz. He also has a half-brother named Matt.

His parents divorced when he was just a boy, 11 years old. He became estranged from his father and, in 2015, described his relationship with his father as "still complicated." He has also dropped his father’s surname and used his middle name, Stewart, legally since 2001. He also changed his middle name’s spelling from Stuart to Stewart.

Jon Stewart is a married man. In 1997, while working on the film Wishful Thinking, he was set on a blind date with Tracey Lynn McShane, a veterinary technician. After dating for 4 years, he proposed to his girlfriend. 

The proposal was rather a romantic one. With the help of Will Shortz, the crossword editor at The New York Times, he created a crossword puzzle. Stewart and McShane married in November 2000. 

As the married couple had a hard time conceiving children, they used in-vitro fertilization to get pregnant. He and his wife now have two children together. On July 3, 2004, their first son, Nathan Thomas Stewart, was born.

Their second child, daughter Maggie Rose Stewart, was born on Feb 4, 2006. There is no news of divorce surrounding the pair.

Jon Stewart – Career

Early Days

Stewart has earned the name of a funny man in school. So, in 1986, he returned to New York City to pursue his career on the comedy club circuit. However, due to stage fright, he only started to perform on stage in 1987. For two years, he performed regularly at the Comedy Cellar. 

In 1990, he landed his first television job as a writer for Caroline's Comedy Hour. The same year, he was cast as a co-host on Comedy Central's Short Attention Span Theater. He also hosted MTV’s You Wrote It, You Watch It. In 1993, he developed MTV’s talk show The Jon Stewart Show, which was an instant hit. But two years later, in 1995, the show was canceled.

Stewart has also appeared on shows such as Late Night with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder, and The Larry Sanders Show, among others.
