Who is Kristofer Hivju?

Kristofer Hivju is an actor, producer, and writer by profession, and Norwegian by nationality. Among all his work, he is best known for his role in Game of Thrones as Tormund Giantsbane and as Connor Rhodes in The Fate of the Furious.

Kristofer Hivju’s birth took place on December 7, 1978, in Oslo, Norway. He was born to his father, Erik Hivju, and his mother, Lieselotte Holmene. The profession of his parents is not known. However, he has never spoken of his siblings, if he has any.

Both his father and grandmother, Inger Worren, are actors, and Hivju too has followed in their footsteps. He also has a famous name in the family- actress Isabelle Nanty is his cousin. 

Education, Ethnicity

For education, Kristofer Hivju attended the Danish subdivision of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and graduated from the same in 2004. When he was 16, he was given the lead role in the school production of Hamlet.

His ethnicity is Norwegian.

Kristofer Hivju is a happily married man. He tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Gry Molvær Hivju, on 22 August 2015. He has two children, both daughters named Noor and Sylja.

Kristofer Hivju – Career

Before fame

Hivju started acting in theatre at the age of 19 at Oslo's National Theatre and later performed on stage at Trondelag Theatre. He has played roles in Kristin Lavrandsdatter, Pepsi Love, King Lear, The Sword in the theatre, and the lead role in the Norwegian series The Last King.

Kristofer Hivju began his career in Hollywood in 2001, after having starred in Norwegian cinema. He had roles in series such as Fox Grønland (2001), Six Like Us (2007), Largest of All (2007), and The Games (2013). He has also appeared in the movies Rovdyr (2008) and The Thing (2011).

Finally, in 2013, he landed his breakthrough role of Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones.

Since the breakthrough role, he has had roles in the series Lilyhammer (2014), Beck (2016-2023), The Lion Guard (2017), The Iris Affair (2025) and in the films After Earth (2013), Force Majeure (2014), The Wendy Effect (2015), The Last King (2016), The Fate of the Furious (2017), Downhill (2020), Long Distance (2024), Afterburn (2025), among others.

In 2016, he also appeared in a commercial and has been signed with the Panorama agency since 2011.
