Who is Mena Massoud?

Mena Massoud is an actor by profession and Canadian by nationality. He is best known for his work in Disney's live-action remake of Aladdin, the 2015 Canadian series Open Heart, and the Amazon Prime series Jack Ryan.

Mena Massoud – Birth, Parents, Siblings

Mena Massoud’s birth took place on September 17, 1991, in Cairo, Egypt. He was born to Coptic Christian parents and immigrated to Canada when he was three years old. His mother is named Gorgit Massoud, and his father is named Mansour Massoud. He is not the only child of his parents and has two older siblings - sisters Margo Massoud and Marian Massoud.

However, information on his mother, father, siblings, and childhood is still scarce.

Education, Ethnicity

Mena Massoud was raised in Markham, Ontario, where he attended St. Brother André Catholic High School, from where he also graduated. He went on to attend Ryerson University's notable theatre program. 

His ethnicity is Egyptian.

In 2021, Mena Massoud began dating actress Emily Shah, the daughter of Bollywood producer Prashant Shah. Mena and Emily are the founders and business partners of the gin brand- Dharma Gin. They married in July 2025. He has yet to share any children with his wife. Moreover, there is no news of divorce surrounding the pair.

Mena Massoud – Career

Before fame

Massoud began his career in 2011, and his debut was with the TV series Nikita. The same year, he guest-starred in Combat Hospital, had a main voice role in The 99, and had a recurring role in Poser. In 2012, he had roles in the TV series Cut to the Chase and King.

Breakthrough role

Finally, in 2015, Mena Massoud landed his breakthrough role as Jared Malik in the series Open Heart. This was followed by roles in Saving Hope (2017), Jack Ryan (2018), and Reprisal (2019).

In films,  Massoud has portrayed roles in Ordinary Days (2017), Run This Town (2019), Aladdin (2019) as Aladdin, Strange but True (2019), The Royal Treatment (2022), The Sacrifice Game (2023), Wish You Were Here (2025), and Tecie (2025). He also lent his voice to the 2016 video game Watch Dogs 2.
