Michiel Huisman is an actor, musician, and singer-songwriter by profession and Dutch by nationality. He is best known for his roles in The Age of Adaline, The Haunting of Hill House, Game of Thrones, and Treme.

Michiel Huisman’s birth took place on 18 July 1981 in Amstelveen, Netherlands. He was born to his father, Dick Huisman, a musician, while his mother was a club singer. He is not the only child of his parents and has a younger brother, Dustin Huisman, who is a former professional football player.

Huisman learned to speak English by watching American movies. He shared,

“I learned English at school, or at least that's how it started. Also, in Holland - as opposed to some other European countries - we don't dub anything, so as a kid growing up, always watching English and American movies in their original language really helped.”

Michiel Huisman is a happily married man. He married his longtime girlfriend, Dutch actress Tara Elders, in February 2008. The couple had first met in 2003 on the set of Phileine Says Sorry. 

He and his wife welcomed daughter Hazel Judith Huisman on June 9, 2007. As of now, there have been no news of extra-marital affairs or divorce.

Early Career

Michiel Huisman began his career in 1995 with Voor Hete Vuren.  He then landed a supporting role in Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden, which gained him a considerable amount of recognition. 

He was then cast in the TV series Spangen (1999-2002), Costa! (2001), Meiden van De Wit (2005), and De co-assistant (2007-2010).

Films, TV Series

Since 2010, Michiel Huisman has starred in the TV series Bloedverwanten  (2010), Treme (2010-2013), Nashville (2012-2014), Orphan Black (2014-2015), as Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones (2014-2016), Harley and the Davidsons (2016), and the main role of Steven Crain in The Haunting of Hill House.

In films, he has portrayed roles in Full Moon Party (2002), The Young Victoria (2009), World War Z (2013), The Age of Adaline (2015), Irreplaceable You (2018), The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018), The Red Sea Diving Resort (2018), The Last Right (2019), Kate (2021), Mayfair Witches (2023), etc.

In addition to acting, Michiel Huisman is also a singer and guitarist. He was in the band Fontane and released several singles in the early 2000s. Their singles were on the soundtrack of some films. After the band split, Huisman pursued a solo career.

He has released some singles over the years- Deel Van Mij (2005), Geef Je Over (2006), and the album Luchtige Verhalen in 2005.
