Pilou Asbæk is a Danish actor whose birth name is Johan Philip Asbæk. He is best known for his role as Kasper Juul, a troubled spin doctor in Borgen, and as Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones.

Pilou Asbæk’s birth took place on 2 March 1982 in Copenhagen, Denmark. His parents are Maria Patricia Asbæk  (née Tonn) and Jacob A. Asbæk. Both his parents used to run a gallery, The Galerie Asbæk in Copenhagen. His godfather was the late artist Kurt Trampedach.

Asbæk was raised along with his two older siblings, both brothers. His brother Thomas Asbæk now works as an art consultant at Asbæk Art Consulting, while his other brother Martin Asbæk is the owner of Martin Asbæk Gallery.

For education, Pilou Asbæk attended Herlufsholm School and Estate. After graduation, he attended Denmark's National School of Theatre and graduated from the same in the summer of 2008.

Early Career

Pilou Asbæk was interested in drama from a young age. While at Herlufsholm School and Estate, he was active in the school’s drama productions.

Soon after graduation, Pilou Asbæk landed minor roles in films such as To verdener, Dig og mig, R, En familie, and The Whistleblower and in TV series such as Deroute, Forbrydelsen, and Blekingegade.

In 2010, he landed his breakthrough role of Kasper Juul in the political drama Borgen. He portrayed the character from 2010 to 2013, for a total of 29 episodes. But he only gained international fame with Game of Thrones in 2016 as the ruthless character Euron Greyjoy.

He has also landed supporting roles in the series The Borgias (2013) and 1864 (2014), while the movie Run Sweetheart Run, in which he has acted, is to be released in 2020.
