Scott Speedman’s birth took place on September 1, 1975, in Hammersmith, London, England. He was born Robert Scott Speedman to his mother, Mary Campbell, a primary school teacher and champion runner, and his father, Roy Speedman, a department store buyer.

At the age of 4, he moved with his family to Toronto, Ontario. He is not the only child of his parents and has an older sibling, his older sister Tracey Speedman. Tracey died from cancer on February 8, 2016.

Before Fame

While in school, Speedman was a competitive swimmer and was a member of the Canadian Junior National Swim Team. He was placed ninth at the 1992 Olympic trials, but due to a neck injury, he was forced to leave the sport.

After falling in love with acting, he studied acting at the University of Toronto and York University. In 1995, he landed a role in the Canadian series Net Worth, followed by several small TV roles. He appeared in Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (1995), Nancy Drew (1995), Giant Mine (1996), and Every 9 Seconds (1997).

His breakthrough came in 1998 when he was cast as Ben Covington in the TV series Felicity. He played the character for a total of 84 episodes until 2002.
