She was born to her father, Kevin Joseph, co-founder of Brooklyn dance studio Purelements: An Evolution in Dance, and her mother, Dina Wright Joseph, who was a student at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and Martha Graham School. 

She is not the only child of her parents and has a sibling, a sister named Sundari Wright Joseph.

Before fame, Shahadi Wright Joseph worked as a model for Fisher-Price. So, she started her acting career with a modeling career at a very young age.

Way before her modeling days, when she was 2 years old, she took dance classes with Purelements: An evolution in dance. She also trained to dance from A Class Act in New York City.

Her name pops up in only a few movies and series, including The Lion King (2019) as young Nala, in The School of Rock as Madison, as Little Inez in Hairspray Live (2016), Come Find Me (2021), and in the horror film Us (2019).

She had a recurring character in the episodes of the TV series Them (2021-2024).
