Gibson began his career in basketball while in high school and also played at the university. He was selected in the 2009 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls in the 26th overall round and signed with the team in July 2009.
Taj Gibson played for the team until 2017. On February 23, 2017, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The same year, on July 10 was signed by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
