He played for the Boston Celtics, Toronto Blue Jays, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, and Phoenix Suns. Currently, he is the general manager and President of Basketball Operations for the Boston Celtics.

Danny Ainge – Career
Before fame
Ainge was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in baseball's 1977 amateur draft of Major League Baseball (MLB). In his college baseball career, he had a hit of .220, 2 home runs, and 146 hits in 211 games.
After three years with the team, he decided to pursue a career in basketball.

Played for
In the 1981 NBA draft, he was chosen by the Boston Celtics. While on the team, he played against the Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets, among others. In 1989, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings and to the Portland Trail Blazers in 1990.
Danny Ainge became a free agent after the 1991–92 season and soon signed a contract with the Phoenix Suns on July 1, 1992, which was his first day as a free agent. He retired during the 1994–95 season. In 1999, he was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.

After retirement
Since retiring, he has worked as head coach of the Phoenix Suns in 1996, as Executive Director of Basketball Operations for the Boston Celtics in 2003, and as a commentator for the NBA on TNT. He became the general manager of the Boston Celtics in April 2017.
In May 2019, it was reported that he had a mild heart attack and is recovering from it. This is his second heart attack, his first being in 2009.
